Abstract
This research has looked into the differences of trait for anger and displaced aggression between covert and overt narcissism then, studied on how experiences of failure could affect on anger and displaced aggression through experiments. 304 university students were divided into three experimental groups: covert narcissistic group(n=14), overt narcissistic group(n=11), and low narcissistic group(n=13). Then, state anger, trait anger, and the way of anger expression were measured as well as the changes in state anger and displaced aggression after failure feedback was given. Research finding reveals that both the covert and overt narcissistic groups experience more anger in general than the low narcissistic group, and the covert narcissistic group suppresses anger expressions more than the other two groups as well as shows significantly high displaced aggression. The research results after providing failure feedback shows that the increase of anger of the overt narcissistic group is significantly high and the increase between displaced aggressions in each group does not show significant difference. As the results of this research, the tendency of anger suppress of narcissists was re-verified through experiments and it was verified that displaced aggression could be a critical variable to distinguish subordinate types of narcissism.
